| Chanco Lodge 483 was chartered under Old Dominion Area Council of Suffolk, VA, on September 25, 1952. The Lodge was named after the Indian brave who in 1662 saved the Jamestown colonists from a bloody massacre by warning them of an impending Indian surprise attack. On January 1, 1996 Chanco Lodge 483 merged with Kecoughtan Lodge 463 to form Wahunsenakah Lodge 333, chartered under Colonial Virginia Council of Newport News, VA. Colonial Virginia Council was formed in 1992 by the merger of Peninsula and Old Dominion Area Councils, the former parent councils of 463 and 483. | ||||||
| The History of Chanco Lodge 483 (3.8 MB PDF) was published in 1972 on the occasion of their 20th anniversary. The Chanco Chronicles, A History of Chanco Lodge 483, 1952-1992 (2.3 MB PDF) by former Lodge Chief Ben Vincent was published on the Lodge's 40th Anniversary and later updated to include history through 1996. Longtime Chanco member DeWitt Holland provided the Chanco Lodge Issues 1952-1995 emblem reference and the Chanco Lodge 483 Bylaws from 1971.
