History to SE-8, Southeast Region, Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow was published in 1984, edited by Scott Bashore. Technical Editor and Photography is credited to Edward C. Hamilton, and Advisor was Michael W. Cannaday. In the course of my research for documents outlining the history of Area III-C and its subsequent Sections, this is the most comprehensive reference I have discovered. Typeset with color photographs of Area and Section memorabilia inside each cover, this booklet includes the founding and history of not only SE-8 (which was only two years old at the time), but its predecessors Area III-C and Section SE-1.
The authors appropriately credit many prior accounts and histories of the Order, including the 1957 Area III-C Manual of Lodges and Silver Acorns history of Kecoughtan Lodge, both also available here online. Like the earlier III-C Manual of Lodges, this booklet includes a page for each lodge in the Section with an image of their flap and a profile including their history, as well as explanations of the symbols included on their emblems. Use the links at the right to view the contents of this document. Many thanks go to Chancie Crowder, former member of Tutelo 161, for loaning me this document to share online with you, and to the original authors of this document for their extensive research and effort to preserve the history of our Order. |
